Hazardous Material Team
The Murray Fire Department Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) Team was formed in June 2016 and is comprised of firefighters who undergo extensive additional training to become hazardous material technicians. The HAZMAT Team is capable of responding 24 hours a day, seven days a week to emergencies involving hazardous chemicals or substances such as anhydrous ammonia, propane and chlorine. The team respond to these incidents in a truck and trailer that carries specialized equipment used to mitigate these incidents involving hazardous materials. When not responding to or training for hazardous material emergencies, the members of the HAZMAT Team are assigned to a fire truck in the city and respond to normal fire, rescue and emergency medical calls.
