Our new sanitation collection provider, GFL Environmental Services, has begun to change out trash receptacles. For commercial dumpster services, green dumpsters will replace the blue Republic dumpsters. The new carts for residential services will be black, with recycling carts featuring yellow lids. Container servicing will transition from Republic to GFL on April 1st.

When you receive your new recycling and/or trash cart(s) from GFL, you may find it warped. This is due to how tightly they are packed in the trucks for shipping. To correct this issue, please set your cart in a sunny area with the lid closed. The sun will warm the plastic cart and lid and reset it to the proper shape.

Crime Prevention & Public Affairs Bureau

The Crime Prevention and Public Affairs Bureau of the Murray Police Department was created by former Chief Kenneth Claud in September of 2004. Claud saw a need in the community for a positive, pro-active police presence and therefore tasked this new division with meeting that need. The mission of this division is to provide citizens of Murray and Calloway County crime prevention educational materials and resources.

The division is also responsible for keeping the public informed of the Murray Police Departments service mission and the programs offered to accomplish that mission. This is done by providing citizens with educational materials, home security surveys, access to neighborhood watch programs, officers to speak at public engagements, as well as a variety of other services.

Youth Academy

Education of children in the Murray community has always been a priority of the Murray Police Department. In furtherance of that goal the department unveiled a new youth program in 2007. The Chief Novel McReynolds Youth Academy is an 80 hour course held over two weeks for children in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The academy is designed to educate children on police activities, enhance their leadership abilities and promote teamwork with the community. The academy is named for former Chief of Police Novel McReynolds who lost his life in the line of duty in 1957 here in Murray. The youth academy incorporates classroom work with outdoor physical activities and is held two times each summer. Anyone interested in attending the academy can contact the Murray Police Department at (270) 753-1621 .
