Laborer/Operator (Street)
SALARY: $18.41 – $20.63/hour, nonexempt

DESCRIPTION: Under supervision, performs semi-skilled and manual labor work activities in the construction, maintenance and cleanliness of city buildings, streets and roads; may operate equipment assigned to division; assists other divisions/departments as requested; performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Assists in the construction, maintenance and cleanliness of city streets, roads, bridges, sidewalks, alleys, storm sewers and culverts, manholes, drainage ditches, street signs, barricades, etc.
- May operate motorized equipment safely and efficiently; may operate heavy equipment.
- Detects malfunction in equipment; cleans and properly stores equipment and tools after use.
- Performs preventive maintenance duties on equipment; clean/properly store equipment and tools after use.
- Mows grass, cuts trees and tree limbs.
- Picks up leaves as needed.
- Spreads gravel; cleans streets and roads; removes snow/ice from streets and sidewalks when necessary.
- Operates snow plow and salt spreader.
- Cleans out storm sewers and catch basins; pours concrete; makes forms; makes, erects and/or repairs street signs as necessary.
- Requisitions equipment, tools, supplies and materials.
- Prepares required reports and records.
- Participates in continuing education programs.
- Assists other division/departments as requested.
- Applied pesticides along city owned right-of-way as required.
- Performs traffic flagging duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED Certification – required.
- Driver’s License - required.
- Must obtain a CDL within one year.
- Must obtain and maintain a category 6 Kentucky Pesticide License within one year.
MUST BE ABLE TO:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with officers, employees, the general public.
- Perform heavy labor for extended periods of time, often during adverse weather conditions.
- Must be able to respond to calls in emergency situations at all hours.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Work is performed outdoors regardless of weather conditions, requiring intermittent standing, walking, stooping; must lift objects over 50 lbs.; must operate vehicle and equipment; exposed to machinery and its moving parts; required to be in high places, confined spaces, and using stairs and ladders; exposed to fumes, chemicals and toxic substances as a requirement of the job.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to obtain a Basic Work Zone Traffic Control and Flagger certification.
